New special-interest sub-groups of emby-teebie-sea are not formed all that often and this one is still in the process of formation. Such an event is a good indicator of membership participation and the overall ‘health’ of the club. It also indicates the evolution of member interests.

The advent of the marina a couple of decades ago introduced a new group of members to the club – folk with boats that don’t fit on trailers. Some of these are well served by the fishing and sailing sub-groups, others have different boating interests which we hope to address with SCG.

We formed with objectives to promote social cruising and activities for members of the club – sailers, motor-cruisers, trailer-boaties, and pwc-ists. We support safe and courteous boating practice.

We doff the araphat (sun-smart head apparel that makes anyone look dodgy) to all who organize sub-group activities, because we have found out just how hard it can be to co-ordinate weather and tides and people and boats. We have tried to start out with very easy events to suit everyone. I mean, how hard can it be to get a group of boats over to GreenIsland for a beach barbeque breakfast? We hope to make that sort of outing a regular, on the Sunday nearest to full moon (to get the mid-morning high tide for beach access). If the weather is kind, almost anything that floats, fast or slow, deep or shallow, can make the 3 mile run for a sociable breakfast on Green. What we really want to do is get those boats out on the bay and have a bit of fun with good food, drink and company. We don’t really care how far or how fast we go – just that we go and don’t go hungry!

Our first few months have focussed on having fun. Our social activities to date have included a Progressive Pontoon Cocktail Party, Sunday Brunch at Green Island – with a combined flotilla of sail, bay-cruiser and trailer boats - and a Thank God It’s Friday BBQ at the Marina.

Congratulations to Matthew Herzig, who was awarded an amazing prize (seafood meal for two) for accumulating the highest number of SCG Participation Points at the MBTBC November meeting.

We meet on the second Sunday of each month at 4 pm, south-east corner of the clubhouse deck, then follow with a BBQ with a bit of ‘harmony’. Please  join us to share in planning some good social cruises.

Keep it social!
